Skatepark Celje: Built for the Community, Ready for the World Stage
At Alliance ASE, we designed and built Skatepark Celje in Slovenia to give local riders a place to learn, progress and spend time together. Just weeks after completion, the park hosted the World Rookie Skateboard Finals, welcoming 49 young skateboarders from 16 countries.
For us, the project shows what a municipal skatepark can offer when community involvement, design and construction come together. We created a facility for everyday use with the versatility to accommodate international competition.
Shaping the design with local riders
We believe a successful skatepark starts with understanding the people who will use it. During planning in Celje, a public workshop brought together skateboarders, inline skaters, BMX riders and representatives of the Slovenian Skateboarding Association. Their input helped shape our final design.
The City of Celje expressed the ambition behind the project clearly:
“When planning the skatepark, we primarily wanted to create a space that young people would actually use.”
Our role was to translate those needs into a coherent, safe and buildable layout. Local riders brought practical knowledge of the features, difficulty levels and routes they wanted. We brought the design and construction expertise needed to make those ideas work together.
Involving riders early also helps build a sense of ownership. The park becomes a place they have helped shape, with features that reflect how they want to ride.

Creating space for beginners and experienced riders
In Celje, we combined street features and curved transition elements within a connected concrete layout. We included transitions with different radii, banks, rollers, ledges, rails, platforms and organically shaped bowl sections, giving riders a variety of routes through the park.
We wanted beginners to have space to build confidence and experienced riders to have room to keep progressing. That variety supports everyday recreation and training, as well as socialising and organised events.
We also designed the skatepark to complement the surrounding sports facilities. Alongside the neighbouring Luka Dončić basketball court and nearby football facilities, it adds another way for people to enjoy sport and active leisure in the area.
Welcoming the World Rookie Skateboard Finals
From 25 to 27 September 2026, just weeks after we completed the park, Celje hosted the World Rookie Skateboard Finals. Young skateboarders from 16 countries competed in both Street and Park events at the new facility.
The World Rookie Tour described the weekend as:
“A new park, a packed international field and a Street final decided by the narrowest of margins.”
For us, seeing the park used for international competition was an opportunity to see our work put to the test. The event demonstrated that a facility designed around local riders and everyday use can also offer the quality and versatility needed for high-level events.
For municipalities, that opens up more ways to use a public sports facility while keeping the local community at its heart.
Building for everyday use over the long term
Our work has to stand up to what happens after opening day. A public skatepark needs to withstand frequent riding and exposure to the weather while keeping maintenance demands manageable.
That is why we pay close attention to materials, drainage, geometry and construction details. These choices affect how a park rides, how it ages and what it takes to maintain it.
The City of Celje describes the finished skatepark as a modern, safe and functional facility with low maintenance requirements and a long service life. These are qualities we consider essential to the long-term value of a municipal skatepark.

Supporting your project from idea to completion
At Alliance ASE, we bring together action-sports expertise, technical design and specialist construction, alongside an understanding of urban planning and landscape integration.
Our experience with pumptracks, skateparks, bike parks and other action-sports infrastructure allows us to support municipalities throughout a project. We help with feasibility discussions and community consultation, then take projects through concept development, technical design and construction.
In Celje, we used that approach to deliver a park shaped by its users, connected to the city’s existing sports area and ready for both everyday riding and international competition.
Let us explore what your community needs
You do not need a complete brief to start talking to us. A potential site, an initial idea and an understanding of your community’s needs provide a useful starting point.
