Ten years ago, an underused parking lot on the edge of Tivoli Park in Ljubljana was transformed into Central Europe’s first asphalt pump track. The nearly 10,000-square-foot facility was built in just three weeks and quickly became a destination for riders of all ages. Today, after more than a decade of daily use and over 350 pump tracks built across 18 countries, that original track is still going strong. It remains a powerful example of how a thoughtfully designed space can bring people together and strengthen a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Parking Lot to Community Gathering Place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Back in 2016, pump tracks were still a new concept in much of Central Europe. Many city officials and parks departments had never seen an asphalt track designed for bikes, scooters, skateboards, and other wheeled activities. The vision was simple: create a place where people of all ages could ride, learn, stay active, and connect with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the project was approved, construction moved quickly. Just three weeks later, the track opened to the public. The response was immediate. Residents began using it right away, even before the surrounding area was fully developed. That early enthusiasm confirmed something we have seen with every project since. A well-designed pump track does not need organized programs or extensive promotion. When the design is right and the location makes sense, people naturally show up and make it part of their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still Going Strong After a Decade<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What makes this project remarkable is not just its successful opening but its long-term performance. After ten years of heavy daily use, the track remains in excellent condition with only routine maintenance. On any given day, visitors of all ages can be found riding together, from young children on balance bikes to experienced riders and recreational cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pump track also helped transform the surrounding area. The patio at the nearby Bar Lepa \u017doga is often filled with parents watching their children ride, while people traveling along one of Ljubljana’s busiest bike routes regularly stop to enjoy the activity. What was once an overlooked piece of infrastructure has become an active part of the community and a destination within the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That first project near Tivoli Park marked the beginning of what would become one of Europe’s most experienced pump track builders. Over the past decade, we have completed more than 100 pump tracks in Slovenia and more than 250 additional projects across 18 countries.
